Man Beside The Road

I saw a man beside the road
As I was walking home one day
And my heart began to beat with fear
When He turned to look my way

His clothing looked as white as snow
His hair seemed spun from gold
And from someplace deep within Him
A light appeared to glow

"Do not be afraid" He said
As He held out His hand to me
"Come and walk at my side
For there is something you must see."

He showed to me a little girl
Praying so earnestly
Then He said something strange
For he said that little girl was me.

Then He took me to another place
Again I did not understand
Here he spoke softly
As he let go of my hand

"Look at the paths before you child
And decide which you will choose
For you have everlasting life to gain
Or your very soul to lose"

Suddenly I understood all that I had seen
"Thank you for calling me back"
I said as I fell upon my knees
For somehow I had lost my way
And my Lord came back for me.
