She pretends...
That she is strong
To hide the weakness felt inside
She feigns confidence
While insecurity abides

Why does she live
This masquerade
I would surely like to know
And when she hides her feelings
I wonder where they go

She pretends...
To be carefree
Least anyone discover
She is consumed with worry
Her heart all a flutter

'Tis a funny thing
This masquerade
Once you enter in
It is difficult to face your fears
Yet easy to pretend

Why does she wear this mask
Imprinted on her face?

A smile...
While inside she frowns
Laughter...
When inside she cries
Courage...
When inside she trembles

What is it
That she hopes to prove
Living her charade?

Perhaps she does not know herself
After years
In her masquerade
