The Greater Gold

The first time in my life
I saw our flags fly half staff
Panic swept through the world
Like molten wild grass.

Some said the empire had fallen
Some said we would surly rise
As families wiped away the tears
From one another's eyes.

And I remember weeping,
When I saw the towers fall.
So many lives were taken,
And the loss affected all.

And I remember praying
As so many people died
that God would take away their fear
And let as many as could survive.

America, so proud and strong
You've stood through many storms
And I know when I go to sleep at night
Lady Liberty is watching from the shores

Freedom is the greater gold,
That for centuries was sought
And with the lives of many men
Our Liberty was bought.

In this time of uncertain fate
I've wondered how to feel.
And now looking in my child's eyes
I know the danger's real.

I believe all men are equal
And I pray God bless all
But I know I'd fight with my last breath
Before I'd see my country fall.
