What happened to the world I used to see
Through the rose colored glasses
which encompassed me?

Where are the lovers who gaze
With passionate eyes
Into the life which ahead doth lie?

Where are the renaissance days of my dreams
The knights and the maidens
And bairds with praises to sing

Away with youth and imagination
Good-bye world of fantasy
For real life hath captured me.

The glasses have been traded
For wisdom filled sight
And those lovers no longer cling
To each other at night

Knights no longer exist
Long dead is chivalry
Maidens have traded their gowns
For jeans and equality

Though I have forgotten my dreams
Or so it would seem
I shall pass them on to my children

And perhaps someday they will see
The value of both worlds
