98) Family of Elizabeth (McGinness) Gelvin, OF NEVILLE,CLERMONT
COUNTY, OHIOElizabeth McGinness, the youngest daughter of William
and Martha(Wilson) was born, as near as can be estimated, about
the year1793, in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia, and was but
a childwhen her parents removed to Allegheny County, Pa., and
thenceShenango Township Crawford County, Pa., where her girlhood
dayswere spent. She was married, when she was quite young, about
theyear 1810, to Jeremiah Gelvin, who was born May 2, 1788,
inPennsylvania, though of Irish decent-son of James and
NancyGelvin. Several years after marriage they located in
Neville,Clermont County, Ohio, where Mr. Gelvin purchased, from
MorganNeville, one hundred acres of land. He was engaged in
farming,carpentering, and hewing timber. Elizabeth Gelvin died
inNeville, Ohio, sometime between the years 1822 and 1826, but
theexact date has not been ascertained. She was buried in
aneighboring burying ground, about two miles from Neville.
Thegraveyard has long since been abandoned. Mr. Gelvin
wasafterwards married, November 20,1826, to Temperance Liggett,
bywhom he had five children- Kate, now Mrs. McKee; James H.,
nowliving in Augusta, Ky., ; Mary Ann, now Mrs. Massey; Joseph
andWashington. Temperance Gelvin died in the year 1858. Mr.
Gelvincontinued to reside in Neville until his death, which (Page
99)(Page 99) occurred in the spring of 1861. He was buried in
thevicinity of Neville. For many years before his death, he was
amember of the Baptist Church. Jeremiah and Elizabeth
(McGinness)had six children born to them, viz., Emily William,
Martha,Margaret, Elizabeth, and John.(from photocopy of a book
